Being a good parent is about more than lukewarm milk and Newport Beach Security Systems for your homeyou’ve got to find a way to connect to your child during their formative years. Here are a few suggestions for bridging the gap between child and preteen:
Bring up tough subjects: Give your child the leniency to find out some things on their own and if they don’t, brooch the subject. Stuff like sex ed and smoking are great topics to get to before teenage years as is stealing and academic honesty.
Let them make mistakes: Allow your children to make some decisions on your own, even if you know they’re making the wrong one. As long as it’s nothing do or die they’ll learn from their mistakes and you’ll keep the trust building between the two of you.
Study them: See who your child is gravitating towards for friendship during this time and also what is happening with their school performance. This will help you be attuned to any changes that occur over the next few years as things get more complicated.
